The Conference intends to explore the Thomistic concept of ius as it is presented in Thomas Aquinas’s treatise on ius and iustitia in the Secunda Secundae of the Summa Theologiae, that is, as the object of the virtue of justice and as the just thing itself (ipsa res iusta). While recognizing the relevance of this fruitfulness for the life of law at all levels of research, the Conference highlights the particular relevance of the Thomistic vision of ius for the social teaching of the Catholic Church and for canon law.

La Conferenza intende esplorare il concetto tomistico di ius come viene presentato nel trattato di Tommaso d'Aquino su ius e iustitia nella Secunda Secundae della Summa Theologiae, cioè come l'oggetto della virtù della giustizia e come la cosa giusta stessa (ipsa res iusta). Pur riconoscendo la rilevanza di questa fecondità per la vita del diritto a tutti i livelli di ricerca, la Conferenza evidenzia la particolare rilevanza della visione tomistica dello ius per l'insegnamento sociale della Chiesa cattolica e per il diritto canonico.
